Summary:  Several nice things about the forecast, include, that it is nice…and that it is easy to predict. So, it’s easy on you…and me! The story can be short too, so that’s a 3rd nice thing. It comes down to, a sprawling surface High Pressure taking up most of the Plains, supported at the jet stream level by a nice ridge, or bulge, which creates dry air from the top of the troposphere, down to the surface, from DC to Salt Lake. Eventually these two will break down, and/or, move off to the east, but for now, it’s about mostly clear skies, light winds, and warming temps. The temps warm up in two ways, which is nice: one, through “air mass modification”, which simply means, since the cold has left it’s source, it modifies…or warms up, because it encounters warmer and warmer air, the further south it goes…and, through “advection”, warmer air moving in, from the south.

Come this weekend, the mountains will pick up snow from the west, but that system will fizzle out before hitting us on the Front Range, so we just get clouds and wind and cooler air. But not frigid air.
