PUEBLO – An annual holiday tradition returns to a Pueblo community Wednesday.

Students and parents packed into Bessemer Academy for the Bessemer Extravaganza. Each year, the school partners with Pueblo Poverty Foundation to make the Christmas season brighter for less fortunate kids and their families.

“We are blessed,” says Delores Buckner, an Extravaganza veteran who attends with her granddaughter. “I’ve been coming here for ever since she was in kindergarten and they’ve been so good to us we love it, we appreciate it, and it is just fun.”

The community event draws around a thousand kids who all got the chance to tell their Christmas wish to Santa Claus. Families are provided a holiday meal, small gifts, and offered other free services like flu shots and boxes of food.

The event was hosted City Councilman Ray Aguilera of 4th District and paid for by donations from the community.
