COLORADO SPRINGS – It just wouldn’t be the holiday season without the right Christmas tree, but it’s not as simple as just picking one out and bringing it home.

If you’re bringing home a live tree this year we spoke to Harding Nursery about some safety tips for you to keep in mind.

It’s critical to get your tree in water within 20 minutes of bringing it home. If it dries out it can become a fire hazard. Then make sure you continue to water it. Experts say Christmas trees can actually burn faster than a newspaper.

Don’t place your tree beside a fire place or any hot spot. Instead, keep them in a cooler area of the house.

It’s a good time to dispose of your tree when it starts dropping a lot of its needles.
