Crash between semi-truck and car leaves one dead in Crowley County

CROWLEY COUNTY – The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred Friday on Highway 96 in Crowley County.

According to State Patrol, the crash happened around 4:45 p.m. Friday afternoon near mile marker 100, approximately one mile east of Crowley, Colorado.

State Patrol said a semi-truck was traveling westbound on Highway 96 when it attempted to turn south on Crowley County Lane 13 and struck the drivers side of a Mazda hatchback that was also traveling west on Highway 96.

The Mazda went off the right side of the road and the driver was ejected from the vehicle. The driver died on scene.

The passenger in the Mazda suffered minor injuries, and the driver of the semi was uninjured.

State Patrol said both occupants of the Mazda were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Charges are pending for the driver of the semi-truck.
