PUEBLO – Just after 5 p.m. Monday, Pueblo Police officers responded to a residence in the 100 block of Massari Road regarding a dead body along with a possible structure fire.

Pueblo PD said when officers and the Pueblo Fire Department arrived they discovered that part of the house had been on fire prior to their arrival and was mostly extinguished by the reporting party.

PD said the reporting party and co-resident of the home reported that when he arrived at the residence he noticed smoke inside the house and then a fire in the kitchen. The man grabbed a fire extinguisher and began putting out the flames.

According to Pueblo PD, the man then found the body of his deceased, 76-year-old father. The father, who also lived in the home, had apparently burned to death in the fire.

Detectives from the Pueblo Police Department Crimes Against Persons Section are in the process of obtaining a search warrant to investigate the scene. The detectives, along with arson investigators from the Pueblo Fire Department and Colorado Bureau of Investigation will determine the cause of the fire.
