SAN FRANCISCO – The 49ers beat the Oakland Raiders 34-3 in Thursday’s “battle of the bay,” but it was what happened before kickoff that has people talking Friday morning.
Photos taken from the stands showing a 49ers cheerleader kneeling for the national anthem received plenty of attention on social media Thursday night.
The cheerleader has not been identified, and the 49ers have not commented about the matter.
San Francisco is no stranger to the controversy surrounding the anthem. Former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was the first NFL player to protest racial inequality during the national anthem.
The protests have been heavily criticized by President Trump and others in the United States, who said it is disrespectful to those serving or those who have served in the U.S. military.
