Traffic fatalities tie record number in Colorado Springs with Oct. 23rd cyclist death

COLORADO SPRINGS – At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 23rd, the Colorado Springs Police Department was notified of a traffic crash near the intersection of N. Weber Street and E. Dale Street.

The crash involved an automobile and a bicycle.

CSPD said the bicyclist was transported to a local hospital to receive treatment for injuries. The occupants of the vehicle were unharmed.

CSPD their investigation revealed both the bicyclist and car were traveling northbound when the bicyclist was struck. Speed, drugs, and alcohol are not considered factors in the crash, according to CSPD.

On October 29th, the bicyclist died as a result of injuries.

According to CSPD, this was the 43rd traffic-related fatality in Colorado Springs in 2018. This equals the highest number of traffic fatalities in the Springs in a calendar year since the record was set in 1986.

CSPD said this is the fourth bicyclist to be killed in the city this year.
