COLORADO SPRINGS – 50 years ago this month, the 1968 Summer Olympic Games were held in Mexico City.

Saturday, more than 120 of America’s athletes who participated in those games were in Colorado Springs.

As part of the 50-year reunion, the group held a torch-lighting ceremony at the Olympic Training Center in the Springs. Gold medalist Tommie Smith, Reunion Organizer and Pentathlete Tow Low, and Graphic Designer Lance Wyman all had the honor of lighting the torch together.

“Even though we’re all from different places, different perspectives, different events and sports, there’s something in there that unified us enough that we wanted to come back,” said Tom Lough.

Those attending the event go to visit the Air Force Academy, Garden of the Gods, and drove past the new Olympic Museum and Hall of Fame. They said they hope to be back next fall when the museum opens.
