BOULDER COUNTY – Sheriff’s deputies in Boulder County found a skydiver dead near the Vance Brand Municipal Airport in Longmont about 24 hours after his girlfriend reported him as missing.

The 23-year-old experienced skydiver made a planned jump with Mile-Hi Skydiving around 1:15 p.m. Thursday from the Longmont Airport.

When he did not return home last night his girlfriend called the sheriff’s office. Searchers were out in the area until 3 a.m. checking within a one-mile radius of the jump site near the airport. The effort resumed after sunrise with the help of a helicopter.

The man’s body was found around 9 a.m. in a field west of the airport.

Authorities are waiting for a report from the coroner before releasing any information about a possible cause and manner of death.

Until that autopsy is complete the man’s name will not be released as the family must be notified. The Federal Aviation Administration is also investigating.
