Bent County Sheriff’s Office questions five of seven people sought in connection to shooting, still seeking two others

BENT COUNTY – The Bent County Sheriff’s Office has questioned five of the seven people sought in connection to a shooting that occurred in the early hours of Monday, Sept. 24th.

Deputies said they wanted to question the suspects about the shooting of 40-year-old Ruthann Mondragon off of Poplar Street around 1:24 a.m. that Monday morning.

Thus far, deputies have arrested and question Freddy A. Whatley III. Whatley was wanted on a felony warrant and is cooperating with police. The Sheriff’s Office said he is not considered a suspect at this time.

Deputies have also questioned Jason E. Ramirez, Dawnelle S. Wooters, and Andrew T. Martinez. All three are cooperating with the investigation and are not considered suspects at this time. Ashely R. Trujillo has also been arrested, but no further information has been released about her.

Officers are still attempting to locate both Anthony E. Valdez and Carlos R. Martinez.

Valdez is described as a Hispanic male, 5′ 06″, 150 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He has multiple felony warrants and was last seen in Las Animas. Martinez is described as a Hispanic male, 5′ 04″, 140 pounds, with bronw hair and brown eyes. He also has multiple felony warrants and was last seen in Las Animas.
