GRAND COUNTY – The more than 9,000 acre Silver Creek Fire has prompted nearly 200 evacuations Saturday.

Fire officials said the fire made a push to the northeast Thursday causing the blaze nearly double in size from more than 5,000 acres to 9,412 Saturday afternoon.  The initial containment of the fire was at an estimated 76 percent and now sits at 35 percent.

The Grand County Sheriff’s Office says neighborhoods in the Old Park and Gore Lakes neighborhoods have been told to evacuate. This is an estimated 200 homes in those neighborhoods, according to information obtained from reporting partner 9News Denver.

The fire is 16 miles northwest of Kremmling. Officials said 174 personnel are fighting the fire implementing a full suppression strategy.

Lightning sparked the blaze that started on July 19.
