While thousands are heeding orders to evacuate South Carolina’s coastal zones ahead of Hurricane Florence, many are deciding to wait out the storm in their homes.
Many residents who are staying prepared their homes Tuesday, boarding up windows, and lining doors with sandbags.
“I filled my bathtub, I have containers filled with water,” said Thomas Lafluer.
Some say the decision to stay was made with finances in mind.
“Just hunkering down, I mean there’s nothing more I could do,” said Lafluer. “I had the money to buy the extra supplies to stay, but I don’t have the money to leave. I’m 100% disabled veteran and I just don’t have the extra money.”
