Brycen Zerby was killed during an accident at Windsor’s Labor Day parade.

CANON CITY – An 8-year-old killed by a parade float on Labor Day was laid to rest Saturday.

Fremont County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Florence Police Department held an escort for Brycen Zerby and his family as he was taken from Penrose to Lakeside Cemetery in Canon City Saturday morning.

Services were held for the 8-year-old from Greeley Friday afternoon at the Generations Church, where family, friends and the community gathered to celebrate the life of the young boy. Brycen’s parents, Jimmy and Melissa, were at Generations Church when the incident happened at the Windsor Harvest Festival Parade Labor Day, according to information obtained by reporting partner 9News.

The church posted a video statement from the boy’s parents Thursday thanking the community for all their support during this tragic incident. “The messages, gifts, and memorial items have blessed and warmed our hearts,” said Jimmy Zerby.

Brycen was a student at Frontier Elementary in Greeley.  Counseling services have been set up for those affected by the incident, counselors are on call 24/7 at (970) 347-2120.
