FREMONT COUNTY – There’s a familiar face in charge of the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office. On Tuesday, the Board of County Commissioners Selected former Undersheriff Ty Patrick Martin to serve as interim sheriff until an election winner can be sworn in.

The vacancy was created earlier this month when four-term Sheriff Jim Beicker announced he was leaving office early for personal reasons.

Martin served as Undersheriff for Beicker during 15 of those 16 years in office. He said he was thinking about the employees he used to lead when he applied for the temporary post.

“I did it mostly for them and for the community to assist this transition,” Martin said. “I can step in there today and pretty much know everything that’s going on. Anyone else that possibly would’ve been chosen would’ve had a big learning curve.”

Beicker praised the selection of Martin, calling him the best man for the job.

“He served with me, as you might know, for 15 years and he’s well suited to step in on my behalf and finish that.”

Sheriff Martin will have his work cut out for him. County budget hearings begin in November.
