PUEBLO COUNTY – A man is dead, a passenger is in life-threatening condition and another was injured following a fatal rollover crash off a 17-foot cliff early Monday morning.

The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the fatal single-vehicle rollover crash that happened near Pueblo Motorsports Park early Monday morning. Deputies responded to that area around 1:50 a.m. after a woman called police saying she was involved in a crash.

Deputies said upon arrival they discovered a 2006 Ford Explorer was “4-wheeling” and drove up a steep hill and off a 17-foot cliff. Deputies said a passenger in the car said the driver didn’t know there was a cliff on the other side of the hill.

The SUV then rolled over a number of times before coming to a stop. The driver, a 35-year-old man, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle and died on scene.

Deputies said a 27-year-old male passenger was flown with Flight for Life to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. A 31-year-old female passenger was also injured and transported to a local hospital.

Investigators said alcohol is being considered a factor in the deadly crash.
