UPDATE: Highway 24 is reopen from Buena Vista to Hartsel after a fatal crash shut down the highway for hours. Highway 285 remains closed south of Fairplay to Antero Junction.
Colorado State Patrol has closed significant stretches of both Highway 24 and Highway 285 following multiple crashes Wednesday afternoon.
Troopers closed Highway 24 to the northeast of Buena Vista all the way to Hartsel. Highway 285 is also closed from the junction to Fairplay, near the Weston Pass Fire burn scar and south to Buena Vista. That stretch of road is closed due to continuing repairs to the road from flash flooding in the area.
In addition to those longer closures, Highway 24 is closed south of Buena Vista near the Central Colorado Regional Airport to the junction of Highway 285 and Highway 24.
All lanes are closed.
Drivers should take alternate routes if traveling to Leadville, Salida, or other locations in central Colorado.
Eastbound detour from Johnson Village / Buena Vista area take Hwy 285 south to Salida then Hwy 50 east to Hwy 9 or Canon City depending on destination.
