Colorado Springs firefighters extinguished a heavily involved home fire at 1717 Carmel Drive Wednesday evening.

Smoke was reported from a distance, as heavy black smoke was billowing from the home. Colorado Springs fire crews said the fire appeared to be coming from the deck of the home.

One resident was able to leave the house without any injury, as the fire was quickly contained by crews. Firefighters successfully ventilated heat and smoke  out of the roof of the home.

The occupant told firefighters the fire could’ve started from a barbecue grill on the deck. Investigators are still working to confirm the cause.

CSFD said three residents will be displaced and the Red Cross will assist with any of their needs.
