Increasing a tax on lodging could be on the horizon for Canon City.
Currently the lodging tax is 2% and some now want to bump it up to 5%.
On Monday night the city council approved to put the measure on the November ballot. After that it will be up to voters.
This issue was on last year’s ballot and failed. However, city leaders say there is a lot of support from the council and local businesses.
The goal for the tax is to bring in more money to improve marketing efforts and become more competitive with surrounding communities.
