There is a new homeless help campaign called HelpCos just launching in Colorado Springs. It works toward several goals. One is to better educate people about the complexity of the homeless issue along with the extensive resources available to help in the community. Then there is an effort to redirect people from handing money to panhandlers on street corners, to donating to homeless resources where there is accountability for how money is used.

The campaign launches several new ways making it easier to donate. One is texting HelpCOS to the number 667873. It directs the text to an electronic way to donate. The money goes to a fund managed by the United Way. There is no administrative cost with 100% of donations going to homeless services in Colorado Springs.

There is also the option of going to www.helpcos.org. It is a resource for leaning about the extent and availability of the homeless programs locally.
