If you have an American Flag in your home, display it this Memorial Day to pay respects to the men and women of the U.S. Armed forces who died in active military service.

Protocol is to fly the flag at half staff from sunrise until noon, then to raise it to full staff until sunset.

Today President Trump will lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. He’ll follow up with remarks during a Memorial Day ceremony.

The oldest surviving Pearl Harbor survivor, 106-year-old Navy veteran Ray Chavez, will be in attendance with his family as guests of Defense Secretary James Mattis.

The events are scheduled to get underway in Virginia just before 9 a.m. (Mountaint Standard Time). News 5 will carry those events LIVE on KOAA.com and in the News 5 App.

Vice President Pence and Second Lady Karen Pence are in Minturn, Colorado where they will meet with Gold Star families, who lost loved ones in combat deployments.
