It’s May 4th and that means it’s Star Wars day! Star Wars is one of the most popular and beloved franchises ever made and if you think you know everything about Star Wars, here are a few facts that might even surprise a Skywalker pro.

How much have all these movies made?
The total box office take for these movies, from the original trilogy, to the prequels, to Rogue One, to The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, is a staggering $8,926,772,232! That’s nearly 9 billion dollars! Now that Disney owns Star Wars and several more movies are already planned out, that total will only soar from here.

How was the iconic tie fighter sound made?
Much like the voice for Chewbacca, the sound for the Tie Fighter is actually made up of a couple different sounds! Digital artists combined the sound of an elephant’s roar and a wet car driving on pavement to make that famous screech as the ships fly around on the screen.

How much would a real life Death Star cost?
So forgetting the fact that we don’t even have enough metal on Earth to make a Death Star, the cost would be quite staggering. According from a study from students at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, the cost to build a real life Death Star would come out to around $8,100,000,000,000,000. In case you didn’t know what all those zeros would be called, that’s 8.1 quadrillion dollars, or 13 thousand times the worlds GDP!

Was Yoda always going to be a puppet?
As it turns out, no. In the early stages of the movie George Lucas envisioned Yoda as being played by a real monkey wearing a mask and holding cane. Luckily for him, and the rest of the world, a crew member who worked with monkeys on 2001 A Space Odyssey told George, "It just won’t work. The monkey is going to keep taking off the mask and it will be impossible". George agreed and so they teamed up with Frank Oz and constructed the puppet we know as Yoda.

Which actor has been in every single Star Wars movie?
Why the loveable C-3PO of course! Anthony Daniels, who plays the iconic golden droid, has been in every movie from all the prequels to the original and even a quick cameo role in Rogue One.

How much has all the Star Wars merchandise sold for?
With all the star wars toys costumes around, this number probably won’t be much of a shocker. In 2016, all licensed Star Wars merchandise sold for a staggering 262 billion dollars! In case you’re not counting that’s just shy of 30 times what all the actual movies have made.
