Senate President Kevin Grantham (Cañon City- R) is cosponsoring 2 resolutions with Sen. Stephen Fenberg (D-Boulder) to rework the redistricting process when it comes to legislative and congressional districts.

Several states in recent years have faced legal action over gerrymandering, something Grantham says Colorado isn’t immune to.

The resolutions would work to add an independent redistricting commission, amending the states constitution.

The commission would be made up of 4 unaffiliated, Republican, and Democrat members each- providing equal representation to all voters, including those who don’t register with a party.

‘We are seeking to achieve balance, we are seeking to get the input of the unaffiliated voters which is noticeably absent in Colorado,’ said Sen. Pres Grantham, ‘actually it’s noticeably absent in every state redistricting methodology, we’re going to kind of be pioneers when it comes to this.’
