EL PASO COUNTY — The El Paso County Sheriff's Office has announced Stage I Fire Restrictions for all of unincorporated parts of the county.
The restrictions are a precaution due to heightened fire danger across the region as dry and warm conditions continue.
Stage I Restrictions mean all of the following are prohibited:
- Sale or use of fireworks
- Outdoor smoking except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site or while stopped in an area that's at least 3 feet in diameter that is barren or clear of any flammable materials.
- Open burning, with the exception of fires and campfires that are in permanently constructed grates in developed campgrounds. Charcoal grills and woodburning stoves at private homes are also allowed as long as they are in a space that's clear of all flammable materials.
Stage I Fire Restrictions were also put in place this week for Teller and Custer Counties.
