JEFFERSON COUNTY — Colorado Parks and Wildlife reminds anglers to be diligent about cleaning up excess fishing line after rescuing a great horned owl.

West Metro Fire offered its ladder truck to help helped CPW with the rescue in Harriman Lake Park.

The owl was tangled in fishing line left up in a tree, and was hanging by its wing.

Firefighters approached the bird carefully but it still got spooked and tried to fly away. The were eventually able to get a hold on the bird and cut the line.

The owl was taken to Birds of Prey Wildlife Rescue where it's being treated with anti-inflammatory medication.
