COLORADO SPRINGS – As part of tonight’s Stand Up To Cancer charity telecast in this Your Healthy Family we’re talking about one of the biggest breakthroughs in breast cancer that happened a few months ago in June.
I spoke with UCHealth Memorial oncologist Dr. Uchenna Njiaju about the results of the largest study of women with estrogen-fed breast cancer that hasn’t spread to their lymph nodes. The most common form of early stage breast cancer diagnosed and the news that many of them may now may not have to undergo chemotherapy.
“I would argue this is maybe only second to Z11 a trial we heard about in the past 10 years as far as breast cancer is concerned, so this was huge. Just to put it in perspective we have over 260,000 new cases of breast cancer we’re expecting to diagnose in 2018 and basically, half of patients who are diagnosed would fall in the category of what we might use this genetic test.”
