COLORADO SPRINGS – As part of suicide prevention month we are sharing a little bit of Kenny Weiss’ story.  Kenny is a Coach, Speaker, Author and Podcast host who is at the forefront of the personal development field.  Kenny was born in Colorado and experienced success through much of his life until he faced his biggest challenge of hitting rock bottom.

Kenny explains that through what many would see as success from the outside was always an uphill battle for him.  “I struggled with alcoholism, sex addiction, tobacco, sugar, and several other addictions. I played 2 sports professionally I never wanted to play and went through 2 divorces, child custody cases, and bankruptcy.  Through it all I was always trying to figure out, why am I a train wreck?”

Add in the death of both of his parents and Kenny says dealing with multiple unresolved traumas lead him to a very dark place.  “It was 2015, a little over 3 years ago. I was holed up in my apartment, contemplating suicide. I was trying to write a note to my kids, to explain how much pain I was in, and I just couldn’t do it.  I told myself, ‘if I do this, my kids can’t live with that’ so I have to deal with the one piece (of my life) I hadn’t dealt with. I realized that I hadn’t been willing to let go of control, that was the piece of my life I hadn’t healed.”

Now Kenny works to empower others especially to heal their lives, especially parents working to teach their teens to become more resilient and not become victims of teen suicide.

Kenny explains, “You have to give them options.  ‘Do you want pizza, or macaroni and cheese or peanut butter and jelly?’  Just that narrowing of decisions and letting them figure that out will start teaching resilience.”
