Tonight’s Forecast:
Colorado continues to be impacted by a plume of moisture streaming in from New Mexico. Light rain showers and the occasional thunderstorm have been reported over the Southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains, San Juan Mountains, and San Luis Valley on Sunday. Along I-25 and Eastward, filtered sunshine was the rule of thumb. Cloud cover from the disturbance spread north and east, obscuring the sunlight and cooling down the afternoon highs.
Tonight, mountain rain showers will linger early, but the chance of a few isolated sprinkles while you sleep is not out of the question. Along the I-25 corridor, cloud cover will help keep things mild with gentle breezes and temperatures in the mid-50s. On Monday, this same system will continue pushing up through Colorado, keeping skies partly to mostly cloudy. Winds will pick up on the Eastern Plains and will be gusty at times along I-25. Rain chances will become much more isolated in nature, but the threat will spread from the mountains to the lower elevations. An isolated shower can’t be ruled out for the far eastern plains late Monday. Temperatures will still be warm with a southwest flow as reading will climb into the mid and upper 80s.

Extended Outlook:
In the upper levels of the atmosphere, we’re got a series of large disturbances that will be flirting with Colorado. On Tuesday, the first will skirt by the Northwest corner of the state. Since it won’t actually move across Colorado, it will merely clear out the rain chances for a few days. It won’t have any impact on our afternoon highs. However, as we get close to next weekend, another disturbance – this one a little stronger and further south – becomes a greater influence on Colorado, bringing rain chances back for the mountains and possibly cooling our temperatures down for next weekend. Stay tuned as we track the changes heading into the fall season!
