For the better part of two decades, Colorado Springs resident and Olympic Training Center Head Team physician, Dr. David Weinstein, has been an integral part of the USOPC.
"These athletes, this is their livelihood," Weinstein said. "They often have really short careers so they have to shine in that moment. The Olympics only come up every four years, so it's a privilege to take care of them and give them the best opportunity to perform."
The orthopedic surgeon and University of Colorado graduate has had his hand in numerous Olympics, Paralympics and Pan American Games as either a head or team physician.
"I've had the opportunity to go to numerous Olympic games," Weinstein said. "I had the opportunity to be the head physician at the Olympics in Rio and Pyeongchang. So that was quite an honor."
If it happens in Olympic City USA, Weinstein is likely overseeing it as part of the National Medical Network. Which provides free health care to Team USA athletes across the country.
"Orthopedic surgeons, primary care doctors, we have access to world class strength and conditioning," Weinstein said. "Sports psych, nutritionists; so it's really comprehensive care that these athletes are getting and it's all centered here in Colorado Springs."
For the past 25 years, athletes have had a friendly face helping to keep America's finest in a position to stay golden, one check up at a time.
"When I come down here, I have all these resources behind me to provide the best care," Weinstein said.
