Our KOAA Athlete of the Week is Joe Golden.
The Doherty senior is averaging a double double through seven games and helped the Spartans to a 5-2 record.
Golden joked that he plays “point-center” on the court, a position he created and head coach Eric Steinert wasn’t aware of.
“He is the type of kid that will try and he’ll try as hard as he could and live with the results,” Steinert said laughing. “His competitiveness is unmatched by anyone I’ve ever been around.”
Golden was a solid tight end finishing the season with five touchdowns but he has a strong future at the next level on the gridiron. He uses his football technique to his advantage on the court.
“I try to play as low as I can and box out…. it’s just like a reverse block basically in football, Golden said. “I try to take my power and physicality from football and translate that to basketball.”
