COLORADO SPRINGS — It's a massive understatement to say that COVID-19 has put a great strain on local shops, restaurants, and businesses of all kind.
However, through all of those difficulties, Switchback Coffee has managed to not only thrive and give back, but also expand, opening up a second location in the Hillside community of Colorado Springs.
The location, 909 East Moreno Avenue, where Switchback landed is stacked to the brim on all sides with local nonprofits and surrounded by neighborhoods and already has the feel of community.
The local coffee shop only hopes to be able to continue adding to that sense of community and provide another gathering place for all those who call the area home.
"This location represented tons of assets, tons of incredible people that were already here; so what would it look like to get a community gathering place, a watering hole if you will, for this neighborhood," stated Brandon DelGrosso, owner of Switchback.
And it seems like those around the new shop agree.
One employee of a neighboring nonprofit expressed fear for her paycheck with such a close source of local coffee, but happiness that there is now one more way for people to build up and strengthen the community.
"So I think it's nice, it's that human touch, while social distancing, while taking care of our community at the same time," said Victoria Stone.
DelGrosso is glad to have been able to open the shop, which allows him to employ nine more people.
