COLORADO SPRINGS — A man wanted on an attempted murder charge is now in custody after a standoff at a home in Colorado Springs.

Officers received a tip that James McGuire, 28, was in the area of Village Condominiums after 9 a.m. Friday.

McGuire was wanted for an incident on February 10. On that day, CSPD was called to a home on Antelope Valley Point after a report that a woman was shot by her boyfriend, identified as McGuire.

That woman suffered serious injuries but they were not life-threatening.

McGuire was not found during the initial investigation.

After McGuire was located Friday morning officers from the Violent Offender FugitIve Task Force and the Tactical Enforcement Unit were called to the scene to take McGuire into custody.

When McGuire refused to come out the TEU used what CSPD calls "distraction devices" and went through the front door. Early reports said that police used teargas to get the suspects out of the home.

McGuire and another man, identifed as Jaidyn King, 18, surrendered to police.

McGuire was arrested on his active warrant. Ms. King faces charges for being an accessory and for refusing to leave the premises.

Both were taken to the El Paso County Jail.

Neighbors and businesses in the area were advised to shelter in place during the operation.

Sand Creek Middle School, which is located in the area, chose to go into lockout status due to police activity in the area. The school dismissed at its normal time.

This investigation is ongoing.

Colorado Springs Police have concluded search operations at an apartment complex near D49's Springs Ranch Elementary.

Two people came out of a unit after officers deployed tear gas. A man and a woman are now being questioned by officers.

Officers blocked off all access to the Village Condominiums just west of the school. Everyone in the area was told to shelter in place as SWAT officers worked to find the subject of the search.

As a result the campus was under a standard lockout protocol as advised by the Colorado Springs Police Department, per the school principal. Under a lockout, students and staff are to remain inside and continue classes as normal.

Now that police have secured the scene, school will release as normal.

Police haven't released any details on who they were looking for or why.

For now, people are being told to continue to avoid the area.
