COLORADO SPRINGS — A Colorado Springs family is celebrating a special birthday this weekend. Tillie Hammond is 104 years old.

The great-great grandmother was born in Idaho but grew up in La Junta where she later met her husband.

Tillie's parents were immigrants from Russia and Germany. She said the key to longevity is eating potatoes.

"That's what we ate on Saturday, on Friday night was potato soup and on Saturday it was fried potatoes, the Germans never changed their menu," she said.

Tillie still lives at home, but gets a little help from her home health care nurses.

All she wanted for her birthday was to relax and enjoy the weather outdoors.
