FOUNTAIN -A stretch of Fountain Mesa Rd. was closed down Saturday afternoon due to a gas leak.
The road was closed between Ancestra and C&S road.
The City of Fountain said there was a traffic accident in the area and a vehicle struck a gas line around 1:30 p.m.

Mandatory evacuations were put in place within a 2 block radius from Reminiscent Cir. to Camino Del Rey to Calle Manzana/Calle Fontana to C&S Rd.
Around 4 p.m., authorities began letting residents return to their homes. Up to 300 homes in the area were evacuated and residents had to stay away from their homes for more than 2 hours.
The City of Fountain set up a shelter for evacuees at the DFAC Building on W. Alabama.
**Update** for anyone who has been or will be evacuated, due to the gas leak in the area of Fountain Mesa and C&S Rd, if you don’t have any where to go the DFAC Building, located at 326 W Alabama, is open for you to wait until the evacuations have been lifted.

Police said a single pickup truck was involved in the traffic accident. The driver did not suffer any injuries. The investigation is ongoing and it is unclear at this time if the driver of the pickup will be cited.
