COLORADO SPRINGS – If hiking is a part of your exercise routine, here’s a heads up.

Some sections of the Santa Fe Trail on the Air Force Academy will be closed as El Paso County completes repairs with work starting Wednesday and wrapping up around April 25. During this time intermittent closures of the trail may be necessary. Closures will be limited to active construction sites and only on weekdays.

Separately, the trail will be closed at the Tri-Intersection Bridge on March 27th thru April 3rd to remove the conex boxes and re-establish the trail.

Other repairs include trail resurfacing, culvert repair, replacement of eroded slopes and correction of the concrete located at the Monument Creek low water crossing.

Visitors are encouraged to pay attention for trail closure signs and use caution. Anyone on a bike or horseback will be required to dismount and approach the construction area at slower speeds.

If you would like additional information you can contact Jason Meyer with the El Paso County Parks Department at 719-520-6985.
