COLORADO SPRINGS- Police are investigating two shootings in Colorado Springs that happened early Sunday morning.

Officers say the two shootings are not related.

One of the reported shootings happened at an apartment complex in the southeast part of Colorado Springs on Verde Drive.

According to police, officers got a call about shots fired around 5:30 Sunday morning.

After a brief investigation officers left the apartment complex, they later returned around 6:00 in the morning when they learned more information about the location.

Officers began their investigation at the Mountain Ridge Apartments, where they discovered a man with multiple gunshot wounds.

The man is in the hospital in critical condition.

Officers tell News 5 the investigation is just beginning, but at this time they believe this all started at a party earlier in the evening.

As of now, officers have not said if alcohol or drugs were involved.

‘This was kind of a carry over of maybe some issues that happened at that party,’ said Lieutenant Howard Black, Public Information Officer with Colorado Springs Police Department.

Lt. Black added the victim attempted to enter another apartment at the complex when the first shots were fired.

A suspect is detained but is not in custody yet.

The second shooting happened at Dale Street in Colorado Springs.

CSPD said at approximately 2:59 a.m. officers received information about shots fired in a parking lot in the 3100 block of E. Dale. When officers arrived, the learned that two 17-year-olds, one female and one male, had been transported from the scene to a local hospital by friends. CSPD said the two teens had what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

Both individuals are being treated for non-life threatening injuries, according to CSPD.

The Colorado Springs Police Department Violent Crimes Unit is investigating both shootings.
