VAIL PASS – Backcountry skiers and snowmobilers could soon be paying more to use Vail Pass.

The US Forest Service says it’s been running on a deficit for the past two winters and is now proposing an increase on passes from $6 a day to $10.

The increase for yearly passes would jump from $40 to $65 per person.

The Vail Daily is reporting that this would be the first price hike in almost 15 years.

The money will go toward plowing parking areas and grooming and maintaining more than 100 miles of trails.
