EL PASO COUNTY – The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents that many fireworks are illegal in the county ahead of New Year’s Eve.

The sheriff’s office sent out a statement to remind residents that fireworks like bottle rockets, firecrackers, mortars, M80s and Roman candles are banned within the county. They are also banned in incorporated cities within the county.

Fountains, ground spinners, smoke bombs, sparklers and small toy vehicles are allowed within unincorporated El Paso County, but those are not allowed in Colorado Springs, Manitou Springs, Fountain and Monument. They also are not allowed on U.S. Forest Service lands.

Champagne poppers, snaps and pull string poppers, which aren’t considered fireworks, ARE allowed. If you have questions about what’s allowed in your neighborhood, contact your local fire department or fire protection district.

You can also catch fireworks in Cañon City, or possibly from the summit of Pikes Peak from the AdAmAn club.
