PUEBLO – Leaders will decide on a potential major change to Pueblo’s city-county animal shelter. News5 spoke with City Councilman Chris Nichol who says they just received a resolution to switch to Pueblo-based nonprofit Paws For Life to run its shelter and animal control services.

Unlike the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak region, whose contract expires at the end of the year, Paws for Life operates no-kill shelters.

Council will take the weekend to consider the resolution before voting on it at their meeting Monday evening. If it passes, county commissioners can still vote to reject it later next week. They would then have to come up with a new plan on their own.

News5 will bring you that decision.
