PUEBLO –  Pueblo celebrated its 10th annual Adoption Day! It’s a special occasion at the courthouse where several adoptions are finalized at once.

When Joyce Granger found out her three grandchildren were in foster homes, she knew she had to step in and help. Adoption was the last thing on her mind.

“We actually thought ‘gee we’re grandparents’ that wouldn’t even be an option,” she said. “So we were looking for how we can help, how we can support, what we can do in this situation.”

But eventually, the opportunity to become parents of little James, David and Eli presented itself.

“Because of our faith and the belief of the importance of family said yes, we want to step forward, we want to be a part of these children’s lives,” she described.

The journey to adopt led her to a court room in Pueblo. It’s Adoption Day and several families are here to finalize the process with the support of their case workers.

“So impressed with the social workers, the people that we dealt with,” Granger noted.

Eleven children are going home with their forever families.

“Awesome to see them go through their journeys, too! Finally come to this day,” said Syddni Clark, who adopted a little girl.

“You think about it, you’re waiting for it and then when it happens, it’s like ‘wow, this is really happening,'” Granger said of the moment she realized the adoption was official.

Now all that’s left is for these families to officially start their new lives together.

“This is our first family birthday,” she said. “This is a fresh start, a new beginning and we have something to build on.”

Across the country, more than 400 events like this are taking place — leading to thousands of adoptions.
