COLORADO SPRINGS – A car owner got a brutal reminder of why you don’t walk away from your running vehicle at any time, even if it’s for a second to run into a 7-Eleven.
The owner of a gold Chevrolet Malibu left their car running at the convenience store at Uintah and I-25 early on Tuesday morning. Minutes later, the car was gone and it was involved in two accidents. The last crash was at Astrozon and Academy Blvd.
Colorado Springs police ended up chasing the suspect after he bailed from the car. Jason Cunliffe was later arrested and identified as the suspect in another car theft on October 8th. Police say Cunliffe was also an escapee from the Division of Youth Corrections.
He was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center for multiple cases.
