COLORADO SPRINGS – The jury in the first-degree murder trial of Derrick Davis started deliberating after lunch on Friday. Davis is accused of killing George Maldonado, the owner of Full Throttle Auto Service, during a robbery in July 2017.
Police say Davis and an accomplice dressed up as utility workers in order to get access to the shop. The two men allegedly tied the owner up and kicked him multiple times, causing his death.
Davis was arrested in Minnesota following an intense manhunt that also resulted in the arrest of Eric Grant in Philadelphia.
Grant was found guilty of first-degree murder, murder, assault, aggravated robbery, and conspiracy to commit robbery in June. He’s serving a life sentence without parole.
