CAÑON CITY – Fremont County Commissioners are set to announce an interim sheriff Tuesday morning.
Former Fremont County Sheriff Jim Beicker announced on July 31 that he was stepping down as sheriff for personal reasons.
Beicker’s term was to expire in January and he did not seek re-election in November.
Beicker originally said that would resign on Sept. 1, but that date was moved up several days to Aug. 28 to align with the County Commissioner’s meeting.
That meeting is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at 615 Macon Avenue in Cañon City.
County officials told News 5 several weeks ago that a handful of candidates were interested in the job and interviews were planned. No potential candidates were identified.
