Grass fire burning in Otero County

Just before 5 p.m., La Junta Fire & EMS reported the fire is 75 percent contained. Still no structures have lost or are threatened.


OTERO COUNTY – The La Junta Fire Department has confirmed a grass fire is burning in Otero County.

The fire is burning near Otero County Rd. 33 and County Rd. LL, northeast of Cheraw.

The fire was initially estimated at 300 acres, but has now grown to 500 according to La Junta Fire & EMS.

La Junta Fire said erratic winds are expected throughout the night.

A total of 30 firefighting and support personnel are working the fire.

Currently, no structures have been burned or are threatened.
