AURORA – The Aurora Police Department is investigating after a mother said she accidentally hit her 1-year-old child while backing out of her driveway Friday morning in Aurora.
According to reporting partner, 9News in Denver, the mother met police officers at a gas station after loading the child in the car and calling 911 while on the way to the hospital. First responders administer aid until an ambulance could arrive.
According to 9News, the child died later at the hospital.
Detectives are working to determine if criminal charges are appropriate for the incident.
In a later news release, the Aurora Police Department called the incident a “heartbreaking accident.”
