COLORADO SPRINGS – Just after 3 p.m. Saturday, CSPD and CSFD responded to a traffic collision on West Bijou Street and I-25.
According to CSPD, when officers arrived they found a crash involving a motorcycle and a Mercedes car.
CSPD said the motorcyclist was an adult male. He suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. A short time later, he succumbed to his injuries.
CSPD said they determined the motorcycle was traveling westbound on Bijou and ran a red light. They said the Mercedes was coming through a green light and the motorcycle collided with it.
At this time, it is unknown if the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. CSPD is continuing their investigation. Traffic on Bijou near I-25 is restricted/closed.
Lt. Black of the CSPD said this is the 40th traffic fatality this year in Colorado Springs. 1986 was the record year for traffic fatalities with 43.
