DENVER – A three-car crash on I-70 in Denver killed one person and injured eight others early Sunday morning.
I-70 near Holly Street in Denver was closed for nearly seven hours after the multi-car crash. Denver Police originally tweeted the crash involved two cars but it was later discovered three cars were involved.

According to information obtained by reporting partner 9News Denver, a black sedan was driving west on I-70 and changed lanes hitting a red SUV. The SUV then lost control, hit a center median and ended up in the eastbound lanes of I-70.
The red SUV then hit a white sedan that was traveling east on the highway.
Denver Police confirmed the driver of the SUV was killed. The driver of the white sedan was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries and the driver of the black sedan remained uninjured, police said.
UPDATE: This multiple vehicle crash has resulted in one fatality and multiple people transported to the hospital with injuries. Due to the complexity of the investigation, this remains an active investigation at this time. The roads have been opened.

Eight other people were injured in the crash. All eight passengers were transported to local hospitals with unknown injuries.
The highway reopened just before 7:30 a.m. Sunday. The crash remains under investigation.
