25-year-old bicyclist killed in crash on S Academy Boulevard

COLORADO SPRINGS – A 25-year-old bicyclist was killed in a car vs. bike crash at the intersection of S Academy Boulevard and E Fountain Boulevard Wednesday. Officers are also searching for a vehicle of interest seen in the area at the time.

Colorado Springs Police responded to the crash around 9:36 p.m. Officers said a Lexus IS 350 was traveling northbound on S Academy Boulevard when a bicyclist was traveling in the middle lane of South Academy facing west.

The bicyclist was at the 1300 block of S Academy Blvd. The driver was unable to avoid the bicyclist and hit him, according to CSPD.

The cyclist was transported to a local hospital and later died of his injuries. He was identified as 25-year-old Stetson Hogue of Colorado Springs.

The driver of the Lexus did not sustain any injuries in the crash. While the crash remains under investigation, speed, drugs, and alcohol are not being considered factors in the accident.

Officers are also searching for a car that was reportedly in the area at the time of the crash. The vehicle of interest is described as a tan or light-colored, older model pick-up truck with a camper shell. The truck reportedly left before officers arrived.

The Colorado Springs Police Department’s Major Accident Unit is the lead in the investigation.

This is the 35th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs this year, last year that number was at 27. Anyone with information on the vehicle of interest or is a witness to this investigation is asked to call CSPD at (719) 444-7000.
