Today repairs are set to begin on Manitou Avenue. It’s been out of commission for nearly two weeks since flash flooding caused major damage.

As we reported, all that rushing water from last month’s storm damaged a culvert causing a sinkhole to open up. A road block is in place where Manitou Ave. meets Ruxton Ave.

CDOT has finally selected a contractor for repairs, and they will likely be sending equipment to the area for work today. This project will remove the old culvert and replace it with a new one. The project will cost anywhere from $1.5 to $2 million.

During construction Manitou Ave. will be closed between Ruxton and Park Avenues. Drivers heading west should use Serpentine Drive or the U.S 24/Manitou Avenue interchange. Shops will remain open but the north side of the sidewalk is expected to be closed.

CDOT tells us they’re hoping to have the project done by the end of September and they will be working around the clock if needed to get this done on time!
