A feral cat reportedly acting bizarre was caught and captured in Canon City Monday.

An Animal Control Officer received a report of the feral cat acting abnormally in the 2400 block of N 9th Street. According to Canon City Police, the cat was being aggressive, and had some confused, lethargic behavior.

The animal was sent to a state lab for testing. Due to recent reports of rabies present throughout the state, the public is urged to educate themselves on the signs and symptoms of rabies and distemper.

While the city waits for test results, the public is urged to avoid all contact with wild animals and to vaccinate your pets and livestock against rabies and distemper.

Police ask to report all animal bites, whether wild or domestic, to any human or animal and to not leave pet food outdoors.

All signs and symptoms of rabies and distemper can be found on the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment website
