Stealing home is one of the most exciting plays you’ll ever see in a baseball game.

It’s less exciting but far more hilarious when it’s a slow moving marsupial who’s trying to swipe the dish.

The latter was the case at last night’s Corpus Christi Hooks game at Whataburger field in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Just after the game ended, grounds crews were preparing for the post-game fireworks show, when an opossum ran out of the tarp being used to cover the field.

As the opossum made its way toward home plate, a groundskeeper tried to catch the critter with a shirt but was unsuccessful.

A few moments later, a quick-thinking member of the team used his batting helmet to trap the marsupial.

The opossum was then escorted from the field without incident. There is no word on if he attempted to play opossum.
